WordPress Plugins for Niche Sites
One of the reasons WordPress is so popular is because of how easy it is to add functionality. Although we aren’t building a content management system (CMS), we do want a professional-looking site with good SEO and navigation. With that goal, here are the plugins I use:
- All-in-one SEO Pack: I use this for optimizing my title, keywords and description on each individual page or post.
GoCodes: This allows you do set up redirect links to mask affiliate code, so instead of links looking like http://www.affiliate.com/, you can make them look like http://www.YourSite.com/go/product-name. Warning! GoCodes doesn’t work with links that have an asterisk(*) in them. That means they don’t work with Linkshare links. For Linkshare, I use Pretty Links instead of GoCodes. - No Self Pings: This keeps WordPress from pinging itself when you interlink posts or pages. If you turn off pinging, it shouldn’t matter, but I install it anyway
- New Tag Cloud: The built-in tag cloud functionality doesn’t give enough control over the tag cloud configuration, so I use this.
- Easy Adsense: Easy way to insert Adsense code (and other code) into posts or pages
- WP Contact Form: You can use a contact form (this plugin makes it easy), or just list your email. I prefer to keep my email addresses private, so I use this plugin.
- Privacy Plugin: Optional plugin for creating a Privacy Policy page that meets the Adsense Privacy Policy requirements. I usually create the page manually (instructions follow).
These are the minimum plugins I use when I’m setting up a niche site. I have quite a few other plugins I use if I’m gonig for a content management site, but they aren’t necessary if you aiming for a highly targeted product or offer marketing site.
